How long will each session last?

Each session will last for 50 minutes. It is important to arrive promptly as even if you arrive late we will still need to finish at the set time.

How long will therapy take?

The time spans for psychotherapy can vary greatly, depending on what your therapeutic goals are and on what you bring to sessions.

How does psychotherapy work in comparison to counselling?

Counselling  focuses on resolving a particular problem and is only concerned with a conscious level of existence.

Psychotherapy facilitates a greater understanding of ourselves, the recurring patterns in our lives and the meaning we attribute to life. Once these issues are understood it has the potential to help us change our life’s forever. For this reason psychotherapy works on both resolving specific  issues and the personal development of an individual. Therefore, psychotherapy is normally more in depth and longer term than counselling.

Are the sessions  confidential?

Appointments and the contents of sessions are confidential. Confidentiality is an essential ingredient within the therapeutic relationship and is also a ethical requirement.This will be discussed further in the initial consultation.

Why see a therapist when I can talk to a friend?

Therapy is designed to provide the confidentiality and freedom that allows you to access and express deep feelings, thoughts and emotions in a non judgmental space that may not be expressed as freely in any other situation.

Is a relationship counsellor the right person to talk about our problems?

If you want to talk about your relationships past, present or future, how you can improve your relationship, how you can manage a separation constructively, how you can recover from a break up or how you and your family are affected by your relationship then relationship counselling can help by supporting you through these difficult  times You can also come on your own or with your partner.
